A Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – August 13th 2021 – Show Notes

Kay:

Hey Questers, welcome in. We are covering, I think probably our very first controversial topic.

Shi:

Here we go.

Kay:

Today is episode 420. This is Friday, August 13th, and with a momentous occasion like a 420 episode today we’re talking about cannabis.

Shi:

That means we’re going to bring you a relevant quote from probably one of the most famous pro-cannabis supporters out there Mr. Willie Nelson who tells us. “The biggest killer on the planet is stress, and I still think the best medicine is and has always been cannabis.”

Kay:

So, many of you may know that the federal government is working toward the legalization and the decriminalization of cannabis which is very exciting. But we want to take this quote in the two parts that we have here because the first part of this quote, I think, is really, really important and one that Shila and I have both paid a lot of attention to over the last year and can now actually feel the physical effects of stress as it’s happening in real-time.

Shi:

We’ve really been working on identifying stress, quantifying it to each other, verbalizing, and then being able to ask ourselves and each other where are you manifesting this stress on your body? Where are you feeling it? Where are you holding within yourself? In the caveman days you guys, if you’re listeners here, you study this stuff, you know we don’t have saber tooth tigers anymore or major life-threatening things, but our body still responds to the stimuli in our environment the same way which means in our body’s mind, we’re facing saber tooth tigers all day long even though we call it a mounting laundry pile and an overwhelming email inbox and zoom meetings for days. Our body doesn’t know the difference and that stress response over time, over and over and over releases all kinds of negative chemicals and bad stuff into our body, which manifests into things like the number one killer right now, heart disease, obesity, depression, and so much more.

Kay:

Yes. So, stress really can be that biggest killer because it leads to so many of these ailments and when you’re overly stressed, you can’t make good food decisions and you’re not making great body decisions for yourself but there is an amazing cure for stress on this planet.

Shi:

Mother Earth gave us…

Kay:

Mother Earth gave it to us.

Shi:

…the most amazing thing called the cannabis plant or the hemp seed, many street names you’ve probably heard of called weed, pot, marijuana, reefer…

Kay & Shi:

Mary Jane.

Shi:

There are a bunch of different words, associations, and slang for it but really accepted in the medical community is talking about it either as cannabis or as marijuana. So, that’s how we choose to talk about it as well. Particularly being here on the west coast the vibe and the culture around cannabis use have become so much more relaxed as the research has continued to edify its uses medically, as well as in this case a stress relief way, as it is getting juxtaposed and contrasted towards the other major legal killing drug out there, alcohol.

We can really see that the amount of propaganda and press and positioning around the use of cannabis early on in our country’s start, or maybe not at the very start, because it turns out the founding fathers were all super pro-hemp as well. But in the last 120 years really, you can see that there were other things that played a part particularly that if we started to advocate for hemp usage that we would stop using other products for things like paper. Some of the larger newspaper outlets here in the US had interests that were conflicting with that and so really worked to villainize hemp and make it illegal and classified alongside things like narcotics, which most of us, these days here in 2021 know that’s not quite the right place for it.

Kay:

Well, and if you follow the money and see where it goes, you’ll see that the media was in cohorts with the logging industry that saw that hemp was a viable substitution for chopping down trees and creating material products with which to build homes, to build planks and all kinds of things. So, you guys, we don’t need to chop down forests.

Shi:

We don’t.

Kay:

We can literally make it all with hemp and decriminalization is a step in the right direction toward understanding the vast benefits in a legal and public way. One of the benefits of engaging in cannabis like Willie Nelson tells us here is that it is one of the best medicines against stress. In an environment where your saber-tooth tiger activation system is going off 24/7, it is really nice to have something that can destress you but that isn’t destructive.

Kay:

Can you die from drinking too much alcohol? Absolutely. Can you die from smoking too much marijuana? Absolutely. But it takes a pound of marijuana to get you there. You will fall asleep before you can even overdose. So, the safety of it, the efficacy of it and so forth…

Shi:

The medical benefits of it.

Kay:

Yeah, the medical benefits of it are absolutely outweighed by the difficult propaganda we were all sold as kids. So, like Willie Nelson tells us, “The biggest killer on the planet is stress and I still think the best medicine is and always has been cannabis.”

Shi:

Alright. That brings you to your quest today. We hope this episode wasn’t too controversial for you. Our episode 420, coming out with our pro-cannabis pro-420 Buddha Friday-sequel quote for you today and subsequent quest. So, your quest today is an Education Quest. We encourage you to do some research. If you’re already pro-cannabis like us, maybe educate yourself on the new laws being proposed and educate yourself on the progress of our nation. Are you ready?
