A Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – October 7th 2021 – Show Notes

Kay:

Hello there, Questers, welcome back. It is a Thursday, AKA Fridays Friday, and this is October 7th, episode 459. We have a quote for you today from the one and only Rumi and he says, “Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.”

Shi

Well, many people use Thursday to run in the direction of the weekend. So yes, happy Friday Eve to all here on the Mentorship Quest. We are big fans of Rumi and the poetic, philosophical, thoughtful, metaphorical, sometimes esoteric quotes and poetry that he brings forward. But this one we love because it points us towards something we were just recently talking about, which is the ability to be decisive and how to make decisions easier which is really what Rumi is telling us about here.

Kay:

Before we get too far into running in that direction, I do just want to mention here that Rumi is actually the leader of a section of Islam and if maybe that has been something in the past that you don’t know about or you’re unsure about, but you’ve seen Rumi quotes quoted in Western spiritual wisdom maybe let this be an opportunity for you to get to know the religion of Islam a little more and give it an opportunity to fill up your heart because that is a decision that can really expand your awareness. I know many Westerners tend to shut it off because we just don’t know a whole lot about it. So, I wanted to put that caveat here before we get into decision-making.

Shi:

Not that we’re necessarily endorsing the institution…

Kay:

Or promoting Islam.

Shi:

No, no but we are certainly promoting spirituality and finding great lessons like the one that’s here and the one that can help us when we’re talking about decisiveness and looking at how we make decisions. When we think about the times in our life where we’ve struggled with a decision, probably if you’re being honest with yourself, if we are honest with ourselves, we knew what the right thing was to do but we got scared about the mechanics and the logistics of what that decision would look like and the consequences that would come after. So, something that we found to be helpful is to shift the focus from the decision itself and really instead look at what is the outcome I want, regardless of how painful a decision and the processing of that decision might be. On the other side, what is it that I want to look like? Oftentimes that helps bring us that clarity and if we get quiet and listen, we’ll feel that clarity right there in our hearts.

Kay:

Now there’s a decision that Shila and I recently had to make. We are having to move our headquarters office of Squeeze In from one location to another. We had to go and do a bunch of touring around some different office spaces in town, trying to find the right spot. Traditionally, maybe in the past, we would have very much put ourselves in the logic-based decision-making mode and likely wouldn’t have gone with, I think in the past, the decision that we did because the place that we’re going to get into is going to be a little bit of a longer wait time while we wait for some construction to happen. But what we know in our hearts is that being in a brand-new office that’s custom-built for our team in just the right way in just a few short months was worth the wait and something that was the right thing for us, even though frankly, that decision in the moment was kind of hard to make

Shi:

Well, we’re conditioned to feel like the brain should make the decisions that we should come from a fact-based approach. To an extent that is absolutely true, and facts need to have their place, their orientation. If your heart says, run into the fire, we got to figure out what is the outcome right on the other side of that fire that our hearts really yearning for and figure it out. So, sometimes there’s a little bit of that deeper searching. But if you ask your heart of hearts, your heart of hearts will probably still tell you, oh, that’s not really why you want to. Well, my heart says to go back to the abusive boyfriend or whatever, and we know those of you who listen to the Mentorship Quest aren’t in those kinds of scenarios. But if you could just play with that and think about that. Is there that heart of hearts that if you asked yourself, what’s the right thing, what’s the outcome I want that could shift you into making a decision that conjoins the facts and the logic with that and that natural pulling and intuition that comes from your heart space?

Kay:

I’m so glad that you said the heart of hearts Shi because in many spiritual texts that often get to call your subtle feelings. The subtle heart, the subtle emotion, the subtle energies, There’s that still small voice, that little piece inside of you that just says, hey, you know the right way…

Shi:

Who’d you make right?

Kay:

It’s that direction. You’re Jiminy Cricket, he’s in there and Rumi identifies it so well in this particular quote, where he says, “Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.”

Shi:

Alright. It’s a Listen to Your heart quest on this fine Thursday. Come up against a decision today and try to drop in and listen with your subtle feelings instead of only relying on your mental faculties and logic. Make the decision, or at least look at it from a different perspective here on this thoughtful Thursday. Are you ready? Say it with us now.

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
