A Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – September 3rd 2021 – Show Notes

Kay:

Hey, hey, Questers welcome back. Today is Friday, September 3rd and this is our final day of Maxwell Madness. This is episode 435 and all week we have featured John Maxwell quotes. We were at the International Maxwell Certification just this last week. We have some other cool, exciting things coming up in the future as well but wanted to celebrate the momentous occasion that we got to be back in the room with our fellow JMT members after two years of no event.

Shi:

Alright, your quote to round out Maxwell Madness week is, “Most people want to avoid pain and discipline is usually painful.”

Kay:

Oh, man.

Shi:

This is one of those quotes where you’re like really no, but I don’t want it to be painful.

Kay:

It really is and life and growth can be painful. If you are looking for any kind of change in your world, in your body, in your energy, in your life, that change is going to require something that looks different than however your life or your body or your physical state or your energy is right now. The change from what you are now to what is different oftentimes is met with a sensation of pain.

Shi:

I super wish that pain was not part of the growth equation, but here on planet earth, as we exist today, it is part of the equation. So, as many of us quest for growth, as we reach for growth, whether it’s financial growth and we’re talking about the pain of the discipline of budgeting, or it’s fitness growth, and we’re talking about the pain and the discipline of reigning in eating habits or building workout habits. All of those things require pain to be put in in order to get the growth out. So, when we say we seek growth, understanding that means we are agreeing to the pain of discipline which can help make that transaction easier as we move forward into it, especially in the beginning.

Kay:

Now I am currently in the throes of a painful process that is slowly taking place toward a desired outcome. But I think that it’s a good example for what we’re talking about right here today. I recently started using Invisalign and I’m having a great time with it. I love getting to do my trays and all that good stuff. However, if you’ve ever done Invisalign or had braces or had anything that happened with your teeth being rearranged your mouth, and on your head in school, then you will know that that is kind of a painful process.

I mean, it’s not like ouch, my teeth are being pulled out of my head without medication pain, but it is that constant dull aching that is always there. But here’s the thing. I went to a doctor and said, I want straight teeth. The doctor said I know what to do over the course of nine to 12 months to get you straight teeth. At the end of that nine to 12 months, you will have that desired outcome but in-between, you’re going to have this dull aching pain for about nine to 12 months while your teeth are moving into place. I accepted that price of pain for the desired outcome but in a medical situation, it might seem like, well, of course, that would happen. But life is the same way.

Shi:

Yeah. It’s really easy to see the equation when it comes to something like getting your teeth straight. It can be a lot harder when it comes to maybe the discipline of not snapping at your kids or the discipline of waking up early so that you can meditate and do your journaling exercises that you keep saying you’re going to do, but you don’t do. There’s this pain exchange and it can be a lot harder to navigate that when it’s not something maybe like Invisalign and it’s something personal. So, we just want to remind you as we close out Maxwell Madness week here, that if you are choosing the pain of discipline, that we’re proud of you and that you’re on the right path and way to back up your desires with actions. That is precisely how you get the success that you seek and that’s what we’ve been talking about here all week.

Kay:

So, just a reminder, what John tells us, “Most people want to avoid pain, and discipline is usually painful.”

Shi:

Alright, it’s your quest today. Do one thing that requires an extra dose of discipline and when it hurts smile and know that you’re doing exactly what you should be to advance toward your goals, hopes, and dreams. Are you ready? Grit through it now with us.

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
