The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – December 10th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey, Questers, happy Thursday! Or as we like to say: Friday Eve. It’s December 10th, and this is episode 244. We have such a fun quote for you today from an American hero Bob Ross.

Shi:

Classic American at its purest form. He says… Say it with us now.

Kay & Shi:

“We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”

Kay:

Happy little accidents.

Shi:

Just a happy little accident and a happy little tree.

Kay:

Got your happy little tree back there. Now, if you are in the dark as to who we are talking about, Bob Ross is the Afroed gentleman who used to be on PBS at night teaching painting classes. He would paint these beautiful landscapes and you could paint along with him and he just had such a kind and loving demeanor and his bell-bottom jeans. He would just get on there and he would tell you things like as you’re creating your canvas and you’re painting, just remember that there are no mistakes.

Shi:

Yep. Even sometimes he’d get a little splutter or something, and say – that’s okay we’ll just turn that into a nice boulder here on the side of the Lake. He had this fatherly, loving, jovial authentic, very relatable energy that came through for decades on PBS. He was just, I think, a real American icon that’s maybe not the classic definition of an icon, but that’s what makes America great. Bob Ross is certainly one of the better reflections of that. Dad used to have Bob Ross on. You can clearly feel where you were as a kid watching Bob Ross on Sunday afternoons.

Kay:

It’s funny too. So, for those of you who are old enough to remember when we all used to not stream our shows and just watch them on TV.

Shi:

When they came on.

Kay:

When they came on you would have something called a flashback channel so that you would have something you go to in between commercials. So, while dad was watching Sunday afternoon football, Bob Ross was always our flashback.

Shi:

Always our flashback.

Kay:

So, we would go between like oh, 49….It’s like happy little trees.

Shi:

Such a good balance of energy there. This quote here from Bob is really a point of view quote. It’s about having that perspective. It’s about how you define things. Tony Robbins sort of tells us that, you know, you’re always doing three things simultaneously. You’re deciding what to focus on, you’re deciding what it means and then you’re deciding what to do about that. That middle piece, deciding what it means is the crux where everything changes. We’re seeing an example right here with Bob Ross telling us the same thing. You might call it a mistake; we can just call it a happy accident and keep moving on and how different the perspective shift is when we do that.

Kay:

Well, think about the energy that comes behind making a mistake. If you can just spend a little focus right into your belly right now and think about what it felt like the last time you made a mistake, like “ugh” right. It doesn’t feel bad, you feel the energy kind of pooling. At least I can, right in my belly. Now think about if you were to just maybe take that mistake that you made and give it that, “whoops.” Instead of an “ugh” it’s like a “whoops, happy accident!” You know what things are going to keep going forward but my mood didn’t get affected. My attitude wasn’t affected by the mistake because I was able to stay happy by just saying that’s an accident and I’ll move forward.

Shi:

Right. Is it the end of your perfect painting or is it the beginning of the beautiful reflection of your spontaneous creation? Completely different meanings there from the same brush stroke. That’s what’s so fun about this is Bob is telling us about a painting, but the metaphor is used often that our lives are our masterpieces, and you paint it one day at a time, one stroke at a time. So, you want to be conscientious of the masterpiece that you are creating. As we’re talking about the word masterpiece, we just have to share such a good little turn of phrase that we heard at the Unleash the Power Within. I guess we’re just talking Tony Robbins this week.

Kay:

Hey, I actually think this one was at the Magnificent Life Challenge wasn’t it?

Shi:

Oh, I think you’re right. Yeah. Yeah. Les Brown at the Magnificent Life Challenge said we are all art masterpieces. We are a piece of the master and the master of whatever that is for you, energy, vibration, the universe, God, Allah, whatever you call that force, that source, that soul energy…That’s what we’re seeing here.

Kay:

So, depending on whether you’re on the side of things where they’re massive mistakes or whether you’re on the side of things where it’s happy accidents, remember that your view looks different depending upon which point of view that you’re going to take. The point of view matters a lot. The vista at the top of the mountain looks different from the point in the valley. Now, both views can be beautiful, but if you’re staying behind a boulder saying, “I can’t see the mountain, I can’t see that mountain. I can’t see the mountain,” you might need to change your point of view. So, just as a reminder Bob Ross says, “We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents.”

Shi:

So, today’s quest is a happy accident quest! We want you to find some little mistake in your past that gives you that pool of energy in your stomach and reframe yourself into making it a happy little accident. Surely something came out of that, that you can be grateful for. Are you ready?

Kay and Shi:

Let’s quest!
