The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – December 15th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey there sisters and misters and welcome back. It’s December 15th and this is episode 247 and we’ve got a fantastic Tuesday quote for you today by the one and only American actor, Mr. Kevin Hart. He says, “Everybody that’s successful, lays a blueprint out.”

Shi:

You know, I might take a little bit of contention with everybody because, if you know Kay and I, you know that we really do our best to eliminate absolutes from our language. But I would concede that certainly the vast majority of people that are successful have put a blueprint down and at least attempted to get where it is that they’ve gotten at the level of success that they are.

Kay:

Well, let’s take successful people out of the picture really quick and just imagine that you’re going to get in your car, right. Now, many of you, imagining getting into your car, one of the first questions in this imagination scenario that you would likely ask me is where are we going? What’s the number one question you want to know? If you’re going to get in a car with someone or on someone’s behalf, you want to know where they are going, right? In fact, you wouldn’t even get in the vehicle if you didn’t have a destination in the first place.

Shi:

Right. You wouldn’t go to build a house and just get out some bricks.

Kay:

Let me go ahead and angle out.

Shi:

Yeah. Right. Okay, a couple of pieces of wood. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That feels good. Okay and then I’m going to make a corner here….No. You would obviously have a blueprint. Because, for anything that we construct in this world, we have a blueprint for it first. Even Legos come with blueprints. Everything has a blueprint. So, it’s absurd to think that the thing that you want, that the goal that you’re after, that the success that you define for yourself doesn’t have a blueprint that goes with it. Now we do want to disclaimer you here. It’s probably not going to go according to the blueprint, but having the blueprint is still a crucial piece of the puzzle.

Kay:

Now the blueprint is different from knowing the destination. Many of you could probably say, “I get it.” My blueprint is “I want to be a millionaire” but that’s not a blueprint, that’s at the end result that you hope the blueprint gets you. So, when he’s talking about the blueprint, what is the blueprint? The blueprint is the plans. It’s the plans for the house. If I am the architect, I draw up the blueprint and give it to the construction workers who take those plans and then build a house. So, if you have a goal in mind, but you haven’t built out a plan for it, you might just be planning to fail.

Shi:

Right. We all know the ism, if you fail to plan, then you really are planning to fail and that’s not what any of us want to do. We want to get to that destination that we see, and we hear so often that starts with the end in mind piece. One thing that we’ve learned from Joseph McClendon that we really appreciate is that this idea of, “yes, start with the end in mind, but be in the right state for it first.” Really get yourself into the zone of energy, of creation, of excitement, of intensity, so that when you set that goal, when you build that plan, it’s from an empowered place. If we do it half-heartedly, if we do it from a place of uncertainty or doubt, then that blueprint’s going to look a lot different. So, you want to make sure that you do start with the end in mind but when you build the blueprint, you’re in the right state to do it.

Kay:

Now, one of the favorite blueprint tactics that Shila and I have in our arsenal was actually taught to us by our mom and we want to teach you guys exactly what to do here, now. Many of you have most likely heard of this as the process of reverse engineering. A blueprint can be kind of scary. You might say I know what the million dollars looks like, but I have no idea how to get there. Okay, well the million dollars in the bank account had to be brought about by something. So, what did that? What got it there? Was it a business? How did you attract that money? Did you win that money? I don’t know. Manifestors have won lotteries, they’ve won prizes. We’ve seen that kind of stuff happen. So, how did you get that in your life, and then what step did you take before that and what step did you take before that? Before you know it, you’ve got a whole blueprint.

Shi:

Right. Reverse engineering is only one of the strategies too. You can also use maybe a mapping strategy if that feels right for you. Look, I know what the roadmaps are. What are those four major markers between here and there? Then you can build the little blueprint on the in-between or even some of us work better with a brainstorm situation. Write the goal in the middle and then just start furiously writing all around the things and components that you know are going to be part of that and let and let it spur from there. But whatever it is, you should choose a strategy that helps you ultimately lay a blueprint out because as Kevin Hart tells us, “Everybody that’s successful lays a blueprint out.”

Kay:

Alrighty, gang, you know it, you’ve got a blueprint quest on your horizon for today. Today we want you to pick one important event or deadline that you have on your horizon and draw a blueprint for that project. But maybe start with the end in mind. Observe the effects of building this blueprint as the project unfolds. Did you feel or find anything new or different from this pointed planning style? Remember a blueprint sets you up for success literally every time. Are you ready?

Kay and Shi:

Let’s quest!
