The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – December 24th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey there Questers and welcome back! Before we get into today’s quote and into all of the things in the quest, we just have to say MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!

Shi:

Merry Christmas Eve, everybody!

Kay:

We are right here. This is our very favorite time of year. This is episode 254. Obviously, tonight is Christmas Eve and today we’ve got a quote for you right out of a very famous holiday song, sung by Judy Garland. It’s one of my favorites to sing. So, Shi if it’s okay with you, I’m going to take this quote.

Shi:

Yeah!

Kay:

“Have yourself a Merry little Christmas. Let your heart be light. From now on your troubles will be out of sight.”

Shi:

Bravo! Okay, you have such a beautiful singing voice and I always love to hear it especially at Christmas time. As Kay mentioned Christmas, the whole season is our favorite, but both of us admittedly actually love Christmas Eve just a little bit more than Christmas day. There is that sense of anticipation. All of the presents are wrapped. The traditions are beginning that Santa comes tonight. It’s that anticipation feeling that we love so much. It’s just a treasured, beautiful, wonderful day. That little song and ditty was a treasure to me and thank you for singing it. She sings a song in the movie, “Meet Me in St. Louis” where it first made its debut. A fun movie, great outfits, great characters, and of course this incredible classic song that came out of it. Now, one of the things that I absolutely adore about this quote, and Kay, I know you do too, is the phrase, “let your heart be light.”

Kay:

That’s where I would land it.

Shi:

Because this is still the mentorship quest after all. We’re celebrating Christmas Eve, but there is a really good mentorship lesson in that little phrase, “Let your heart be light.”

Kay:

Now, when I was 16 years old. I think I might’ve been 13. I didn’t get what I wanted for Christmas. I had had a weird morning. I accidentally spilled mom’s pancake batter that she had made for everyone all over the kitchen floor. I went into my room and in true dramatic teenage fashion, lay on the bed, and cried my eyes out. This song came on in the room and the phrase, “let your heart” came forward, “let your heart be light” because it’s still a choice even on Christmas. Even on Christmas, it’s still a choice to allow yourself to have a little bit of lightness even if things aren’t going your way.

Shi:

Right? Like you have this picture of what the day is going to be like, or the event – whether it’s Christmas or your wedding, or even just a workday or a meeting. You’ve got this picture of what the perfect outcome could be. Anything that falls short of that oftentimes we take away that permission to allow yourself to enjoy it, to feel good about it, to get happiness from it. This reminder here is that it is that choice and then you can let your heart be light. Guess what? You’re going to wake up tomorrow, it’s going to be Christmas day, and the day after that, it’s going to be Christmas day-post and it’s going to be a regular day.

Kay:

Then we’re right back into the new year.

Shi:

And your troubles are going to be there.

Kay:

Yup.

Shi:

And your inbox is going to be there, and the meetings are going to be there, and the scoldings are going to be there, and the challenges are going to be there, but you can let your heart be light right now and honestly, anytime you choose.

Kay:

Exactly. That’s the thing, that Christmas feeling is available to you at all times. We’ll get into that a little bit more tomorrow, but maybe you are at home because you are social distancing from your family right now or maybe you aren’t with your family or maybe you are, but whatever the Christmas looks like for you we do have some traditions in which we allow our hearts to be light while we indulge in them. So Shila and I are together today. We have a Christmas tradition of bringing our families together for Christmas Eve. We watch movies, we do puzzles, and we always, always, always open the first gift of Christmas.

Shi:

It’s such a fun tradition. I’m so glad that we get to be together tonight with our small little families, and you know, say goodbye to 2020. It’d be nice. So, to remind you of that lyric, and I will not sing it because I am a talented woman, but singing is not one of those talents. “Have yourself a Merry little Christmas. Let your heart be light. From now on your troubles will be out of sight.”

Kay:

Alrighty, gang, today’s a Christmas Eve quest, obviously. So, we ask that you set your intention tonight to let your heart be light. Remember you’ve got one night, 24 hours, give yourself permission, even if it’s only just for one evening to keep those troubles out of sight! Are you ready?

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
