Kay:
Hey there Questers and welcome back. It’s February 2nd and this is episode 282. For those of you who are here in the U.S.A., Happy Groundhog’s Day! – until Punxsutawney does not see his shadow and we get a newer and more recent spring. But today we have such a cool quote for you from Chris Rock. Mr. Rock says, “Wealth is not about having a lot of money; it’s about having a lot of options.”
Shi:
I can’t help, but just on Groundhog Day, I want to say Happy Groundhog Day, Happy Groundhog Day…
Kay & Shi:
Happy Groundhog Day!
Shi:
For those of you who do not know what we are referencing, there’s an old Bill Murray movie called Groundhog Day. It’s hilarious and he lives the day over and over again until of course he learns the lesson, warms his heart, and makes some friends along the way. But speaking of friends along the way, Chris Rock is a hilarious fellow, such a charismatic person and personality was on SNL for years. He’s just one of the favorites and one of the greats. His quote here today is nuanced and beautiful in a way that we don’t often hear, I think actors speak about these topics. “Wealth is not about having a lot of money; it’s about having a lot of options.” Boy, do we love this differentiator. It brings such a beautiful dimension to the understanding of why so many of us pursue money when really probably what we’re pursuing is those options.
Kay:
Now, let us tell you of a cautionary tale of a fellow you may know by the name of Joe Exotic…
Shi:
The Tiger King.
Kay:
…the Tiger King. Now, Mr. Joe Exotic made a life goal for himself that he wanted to be world-famous and have a lot of money. He had these two really big goals for himself and he focused on them and he focused on them and he focused on them and he focused on them his whole life. I want to be famous. I want to be world-famous. I want everyone to know my name. Now, do you think that the satisfaction of him being world-famous is as satisfying from behind the bars of prison?
Shi:
Yeah, right. Exactly. He’s got it. I’m sure he’s got a lot of money in some way or another from the Tiger King phenomenon from 2020, but he certainly can’t do much with it and he doesn’t have a lot of options. So, he might have a lot of money, but we would say that his wealth is probably lacking, and Chris Rock would agree with us here because his options are very limited. Oftentimes when we’re thinking about money or we’re talking about wealth, we try and exercise this-so-that principle. So, if we’re saying I want X amount of dollars, or I want to achieve this certain thing, what’s the-so-that, so that I can travel somewhere so that I can hire a nanny to help with the kids and so that I can get a house cleaner. What’s the so-that behind the goal so that when we do come out at the other side, we’re able to articulate in a better way, what it is that we’re actually searching for, or the kinds of options that we want to have open to us.
Kay:
Well, what empowers you more? Thinking about, “I want 1,000 extra dollars a month. I want 1,000 extra dollars a month.” Is that a very empowering message or does that 1,000 extra dollars a month afford you two days of childcare every single week in which you can work on your business and your dream? So, do you say, I want 1,000 extra dollars a month while you’re incanting or mentoring these things to yourself because you’re a positive thinker? You’re likely into affirmations if you’re here on the Mentorship Quest or are you going to be more constructive and maybe get more of what you want, if you say, I want childcare two days a week so that I can work on my business and on my dream.
Shi:
That would be what we would consider a wealthy mindset because you’re leaving the universe open to find other avenues to bring you the so-that. If you’re only saying $1,000 you limit what it is that you’re focusing on, what you’re allowing your subconscious to come up into your conscious mind because you’ve given it such a very specific thing, $1,000. But bringing it up to them so that option so that, “I can have childcare two days a week,” helps the universe and your subconscious and the stars and God, and the mathematical equations that are apparent when we look at the calculations of focus, help align you to that option and keeps things a little bit more open and flexible. So, just to remind you of what Chris Rock said. He said, “Wealth is not about having a lot of money; it’s about having a lot of options.”
Kay:
Alrighty, gang. Today, you’ve got a Chris Rock Abundance Quest.
Shi:
Whoop, whoop, whoop.
Kay:
Yep. We want you to get out there and think like Chris Rock. We want you to think about those abundance options you have in your life that are NOT money. If you’ve been a Mentorship Quester for a while, you know that we have you do this exercise probably once a quarter because it’s really impactful. Do you have a local trailhead that’s nearby your house that offers an abundant and beautiful hike? Do you have a family member or a friend that helps you with grocery shopping or maybe that just checks in occasionally? Abundance is all around and often it’s not in the form of money. So get there and recognize the abundance you have in your life this weekend! Are you ready?
