The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – February 6th, 2020

Dolly Parton sharing her cup of ambition with us today, and boy are we in for a treat! Dolly tells us that if we want a new road, and a new life, we have to pave it ourselves (and can’t just leisurely stroll on). Well shoot Dolly, this might require us to exchange our vans for some working boots, huh!

You might be thinking: Well okay guys so maybe I don’t like the road I’m walking on…and maybe I want to take a lil u-turn and pave a new one…but HOW?!

And THIS is where Dolly comes back in. The people who came before us (like Dolly) have already paved some roads for us, and we have access to all their how-to, road-pavin’ knowledge through BOOKS! Meaning, we have a plethora of resources to help guide our way. (*This is where we let out a cheer*)!

But – in acknowledging that we have previous road-pavers to help guide us, we must also admit that it can be too easy to get attached to the road we’ve been walking for awhile. Because, many times, instead of walking in a straight line, we are actually walking in a circle. And in this circle we have our “but I had my first kiss in that pothole”, and “I’ve known that neighbor for ages” thoughts. Our sense of familiarity in the circle triggers feelings of comfortability, EVEN WHEN WE DON’T LIKE THE ROAD! It is when we notice – and decide to break out of – these destructive thoughts and patterns that we can pave a new place for ourselves, and those that come after us – just as Dolly did!

Want to hear Dolly sing it herself? We get it! Take a listen to the podcast right here!
