Hey, Questers and welcome to the very first podcast episode of 2021.
Shi:
Hey 2021!
Kay:
You know it. This is January 1st, episode 260, and we are kicking it old school on this New Year’s Day with a quote directly from C. S. Lewis and he says, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
Shi:
And that is the perfect way to start off our 2021 season of Mentorship Quest because no matter where you are in age, or in mentality, or in habits, or in a relationship, you’re never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream. You know, we were reflecting on some of the lives of people that we would consider extremely well accomplished. Tony Robbins, John Maxwell, Joseph McClendon and looking at their lives, how long they spent in certain areas. They could have just said, “this is my area,” or, “this is what I’m doing,” but they reached for more, they saw more, they desired for more. So, they went after that methodically, challenging all of those things, but they did that, and they progressed, and they’ve lived 10 lives compared to a lot of people.
Kay:
Right. Well, many people think, well, I don’t want to put thoughts in your mind, but many people come forward and will use phrases like, “Well, I’m just too old or they’re further down the path than me or it’s already been done. I can’t do it to you.”
Shi:
I have those thoughts sometimes.
Kay:
Right? But when we’re methodically going down that path, it’s all of that 80% of the work that gets done in the dark before somebody comes out and bursts onto the scene in the light and now they’re nationally recognized. Shila and I like to talk about personal growth and development a lot. So, we ask a lot of people have you heard of John Maxwell? Have you heard of Tony Robbins? There are so many people that never ever have and there are people then also who will look at John Maxwell and Tony Robbins and say, “Well, they are these huge celebrities, and everyone must know them, and I want to be that but they’re already so far ahead.” What they don’t know is that it took both of them 35 to 40 years of building their careers and their businesses to the place where even 10% of the population could have some kind of recognition around their names.
Shi:
Right. In personal growth and development, it might not be your jam and that’s okay. Be passionate about education or passionate about music or passionate about health and fitness. There are so many different ways that your dreams can express and there are so many different ways that we can talk ourselves out of it or we can feel defeated by some of those thoughts, those limiting beliefs. You might even have a friend who will say, I’m too “old” or entrenched in the system where others are just so far along, and you would motivate the hell out of them. You would tell them they could still do it, but when it comes to your own, you get sometimes that inner sense of hopelessness, and here on New Year’s Day to start off 2021, just a simple reminder that you are never too old. Even though it’s a new year, you can still have a new dream. You could keep working on an old dream. You could resurrect a dream that you’ve left in the dust for a while. It is never too late to start, and you will be so surprised at what you can achieve.
Kay:
You know, one of my favorite stories of this example at play in someone’s life is that of the late, may he rest in peace, Alan Rickman. Alan Rickman, if you are not recognizing that name right off the top of your head, plays Professor Snape in the Harry Potter movies. He also played a pretty iconic character in the space troop spoof Galaxy Quest and he’s just a wonderful actor. He had always wanted to act. He had a whole career that he did before that though. He did tech or something and he had a career and he always wanted to act, and he kept it as a side hobby and he never gave up on it. He just kept going after it and going after it and going after it and finally, he’s in his mid-forties and he just, you know what, I’ll go out for another audition and who knows what will happen. Boom! Professor Snape with Harry Potter gets booked and his entire career as an actor gets defined. He’s one of the greats and he’s doing all these movies and before, you know it, he’s in films that are being nominated for Oscars. Oscars, on a goal that he set and kept working on that he wasn’t really even in full force towards until he was in his forties. It is never too late to get started.
Shi:

..in 2021 is, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”
Kay:
Alright, gang, you know, that means today the quest is a Goal Setter Quest. Today, it’s your job to set at least one goal for 2021. No matter how many years young you are, set that goal. Are you ready?
