The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – July 15th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey there, Questers, and welcome back to another episode of The Mentorship Quest! Today, we have Episode 138 coming at ya, and it is Wednesday, July 15th. Now, we actually have a PCE to share with you today, which is a “Personal Celebrity Encounter” with the one and only – Mrs. Jillian Michaels – who’s our featured quest guide for the day!

Shi:

And, I love this quote! She says, “Unless you puke, faint, or die, keep going.”

Kay:

Oh, I love it! Well, Jillian Michaels, if you don’t know, was one of the lead trainers for the hit show, The Biggest Loser.

Shi:

I was obsessed with the biggest loser…love, love, LOVED it! It used to be the show that I would only allow myself to watch while on the treadmill. And, because I loved it so much, it would help motivate me to get on the treadmill. And, of course, it’s a great show to watch while you’re trying to lose weight, but she was so inspiring, and funny, and compelling, and intense, and ALL of the things in that show, that I even ended up getting a couple of her workout DVDs, and some of her books, because she’s just an awesome lady! And then, to top it all off with that PCE, she has eaten at the Squeeze In not once, but TWO different times at our restaurant in Truckee. In fact, she was there on a Sunday and we didn’t know it. And I happened to jump on Twitter, and I scrolled by a picture and was like, “Hey, that looks like it’s in Squeeze In!” And then, I was like, “Hold up – that’s Jillian Michaels…And, it IS Squeeze In…And, it was 10 minutes ago!” And so, I called the Squeeze manager up there, and I said, I think she’s on table six. And, our manager there said, “Oh my gosh, you know, it’s so funny…I actually told her she looked just like Jillian Michaels!”

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Shi:

So, she loved the Squeeze, and ended up having some conversing back and forth with our manager there for a little, and actually came back later, with her son, and had chocolate bacon and loved it! But, we love Jillian so much, and this quote is just so classically Jillian Michaels.

Kay:

Awww, I’m so glad you shared that PCE! And, while we didn’t get to encounter her in person, it was lovely to have this celebrity encounter through our restaurant. We’ve been lucky enough to serve the likes of Daniel Tosh, Sean White, Colin Kaepernick, Ziggy Marley, Bernie Sanders…We have had all kinds of really cool, big names come through, but I think one of the ones we’ve been most excited about has been Jillian. And, one of the things that I really love about Jillian is that, I believe she is really in touch with the driving energy of life, without being too masculine. She’s still a female, and she’s still a woman, but man, if you have her screaming in your face – unless you puke, faint, or die – you are scared into doing whatever it is that you’re doing for as long as you possibly can handle it!

Shi:

And, that’s exactly the essence of this quote, right? You can go way farther than you think you can. So many of us are used to being coddled, by ourselves and our parents, so, when it does get hard – you rest, or, if it’s too tough – you step back. But, when it comes to losing weight or gaining any kind of strength, (whether it’s physical, emotional, spiritual, or financial), it takes discipline, and it takes pushing those boundaries, and pushing yourself. I recently heard that it’s at 40% capacity when your brain tells you that you should stop, but that you still have 60% more to give, even when your brain triggers for you that you need to pull back. So, I love that she just tells us here – unless you’re going to basically die…keep going!

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Kay:

Oh my goodness! Well, and what they’re finding out too, through success and skill building research, is that it’s not like you have to be SO far outside of your skills zone, (where you are doing things without proficiency), because apparently, if you do something that is just 4% harder than what you did yesterday, you can build up to be the best and the fastest – in regards to triggering a flow state for learning more, for doing more! And, they proved this through a surfing study that they did. So, they took a bunch of surfers, and they threw them in the water, and they individually increased the difficulty on them. So, for some people, they increased the difficulty by 10%, and, for others, they increased the difficulty by 50%. But, in the end, they discovered that the secret sauce is actually just 4% more than what you think you’re capable of. And, by increasing the difficulty of something by just 4%, the surfers would go further and faster each time. And so, why I love this quote by Jillian is because – at that 40% level – you probably start having nudges in your head that say, “Oh, this is so hard…Oh, I don’t want to do this anymore…Oh, I’m not capable…Ah, I just can’t”…and all kinds of different things. And so, when we have this steadfastness about us, and this determination that we’re going to keep going no matter WHAT, it helps that still, small voice inside your head stay still and small!

Shi:

Exactly! And that’s what we want it to do. So, what you might not know about today is that July 15th – which is Kay’s Birthday Eve. So, tomorrow she will be 28 and we have a special podcast in line for that. But, today’s Birthday Eve quote was from Jillian Michaels, who said, “Unless you puke, faint, or die, keep going.”

Kay:

Now, today’s quest is an endurance quest!…You knew it would be! Today, we want you to: Get out there and choose your favorite exercise move. That might be pushups, sit ups, jumping jacks, or anything else. And, we want you to do that move of your choice for 120 straight seconds. Yep! Two FULL minutes…no matter how bad it hurts…If you’re not puking, fainting, or about to die, do NOT stop! Prove your power to yourself, for yourself. You can do literally anything for two full minutes. We believe in you! Are you ready?

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest! And, let’s sweat! 😉
