The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – July 28th, 2021 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey there, Questers welcome back. It is Wednesday, July 28th and this is episode 408. We have a quote from the queen herself. One of the, (I want to call her the godmother of personal growth and development ), is because that’s basically what she is.

Shi:

The fairy godmother.

Kay:

The fairy godmother of edutainment, personal growth and development, television producer, actress, author, and philanthropist, Oprah Winfrey.

Shi:

Who tells us, “Self-esteem means knowing you are the dream.”

Kay:

Oh, what a good quote. I want to say it in the Oprah style. She’s like, “Self-esteem means knowing you ARE the dream.”

Shi:

Oprah, we love you. You are a queen and every time that you speak, we love to close our mouths and listen. This is such a fun quote with imagery, with a lot to unpack, and on a topic that is needed in our society more now than ever.

Kay:

Well, let’s think about your dreams for just a quick moment. So, let’s go into the actual dreams, the ones that you have while you’re sleeping. Think about the dreams. Now think about how the dreams themselves have kinds of variety to them. You see different places, you meet different people, you do all kinds of different things but there’s one common denominator in every single dream that you have. And it’s you. You are never not present inside of your own dream. You’re there, always. So now let’s flip that script onto the dreams that you have in and for your life. Not the ones that get served up to you while you’re sleeping but the ones that you are intentionally putting out there into the universe. What do all of those dreams also have in common?

Kay & Shi:

You!

Shi:

Even if it’s you with your desire to serve. Even if it’s you with your desire to have an impact. Even if it’s you to be selfless and not get any recognition whatsoever, it still includes you which means all of that dream stuff is you. It can be a little bit funny to wrap your head around, but we really understand it from the metaphor of: your life is your masterpiece. At the end of your life what you have left is the actions that you’ve taken, the relationships that you’ve had, the connections that you’ve built, that is the masterpiece of what your name will go down as. If you are a philanthropist and you leave a building, maybe you get remembered for that, but truly your life is your masterpiece and that would be even just a part of it. So, you’re creating the dream life for yourself when you think about: what is that dream life? You’re imagining it, you’re picturing it, but there’s that common denominator showing up. It’s you. So you are, the dream is kind of the crux of the quote here, but I think now bringing in the element of self-esteem means knowing that is such a beautiful dimension to add.

Kay:

Well, it can be hard to remember that you are kind of the, I guess the crux of the issue and the success. Now that might not be hard for you to remember because you’re like, “yeah, I get it. My success and my failure are 100% up to me but take it in this way.” Performance psychology is now showing that the differentiator between the people who stay successful on their goals and the people who don’t are the people who stay successful, have identified with their dreams or with their goal and created that goal or that outcome as a part of their personality. So, someone who is successful in running marathons, you guys have heard us use this example before here on the Mentorship Quest. The person who is going to be a long-term runner and sustain a long-term running habit is the person who strives to become a marathon runner, not the person who strives to run a marathon. So, when you have self-esteem that’s that feeling of, you know, I have that confidence. I have this inner knowing that I’m going to make it because you are that dream. The more that you identify with that dream, the more self-esteem you’ll have that it’s actually going to come true because as performance psychology shows us the difference between those who are successful and not is those who identify with the components of their dream life.

Shi:

Ooh, so much good stuff there but we’re out of time. So, let’s remind you of what the quote is today from Miss Oprah Winfrey. “Self-esteem means knowing you are the dream.”

Kay:

Alrighty, guys, we have a Wellness Wednesday Quest for you today. Today we want you to choose your own adventure. We have a self-esteem style for you today. In order to more deeply understand that you are truly the dream we want you to either write a little love note or a poem yourself or make a tiny mini vision board with all of its photos, including an element of who you are. As you create these masterpieces remember that you craft the person you become each day, just the same and that you really are the dream. Are you ready? You know what to say.

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
