Kay:
Welcome, once again, to The Mentorship Quest! Today, we’ve got an awesome episode for you. This is episode 116 – it is June 15th – and today’s quote comes to you from the creator of The Secret – Ms. Rhonda Byrne!
Shi:
She says, “To attract money, you must focus on wealth. It is impossible to bring more money into your life when you are noticing you do not have enough, because that means you are thinking thoughts that you do not have enough.”
Kay:
Now, I think that this quote really gets summed up in the adage that says, “What you think about, you bring about.”
Shi:
Well, I think this is a really astute quote because a lot of us have a tendency to understand that what we think about we bring about, but then we don’t. We’re so steeped in patterns (about finances in particular), that we are focused on the poverty, the bills, the lack, the scarcity, and not really realizing that this principle applies to your money as well!
Kay:
Well, sometimes it can be difficult not to focus on the things like your bills or debt, because those are very important things in your life! If you don’t pay your bills, you don’t have a place to live, or you don’t have your lights turned on, or you don’t have water flowing in your house… So, your finances are really important. And, if you don’t have them, it can cause a lot of strife for you, which means we’ve all got a lot of emotional baggage attached to money as well.
Shi:
I mean, who doesn’t, right? Almost all of us do, because money is something that is necessary to live. The more of it you have, the more opportunity you can afford, the more you can give, the more you can grow, the more you can invest in…So money is a pretty important means to pretty much every end in our society right now! And, it’s definitely put up on this pedestal as like THE measure of success.
Kay:
So, when you’re looking to attract more money into your life, you really have to focus on wealth. Because, if you’re looking to attract money, but you’re focused on debt…Or, you’re looking to attract money, but you’re focused on lack...Or, you’re looking to attract money, but you’re focused on the places you see poverty and deprivation around you – chances are, you’re just going to be attracting more of the things that you’re not looking for!
Shi:
She says, “It is impossible to bring more money into your life when you are noticing you do not have enough, because that means you’re thinking that you do not have enough.” And, it comes from that place of wanting to see the gaps, and use the servo mechanism in our brain to scan for what’s wrong. But, what if we could train that servo mechanism to trigger us into gratitude? AKA: Our brain scans – notices a gap – and then, BOOM, triggers us into recognizing how grateful we are for all of the abundance that we do have in other areas! Like, “I might not get to fly first class like I wanted, but it’s amazing that I get to fly at all, and that I get to afford these experiences in any kind of capacity – especially when you compare it to the rest of the world.” So, I think that’s what she’s really uncovering here – this opportunity for us to use our brains to not just see the gap, but then also trigger ourselves into gratitude, so that we stay in that abundance mindset!
Kay:
Gratitude is one of the most powerful stepping stones into abundance, especially when we are looking at the things that we have around us. And, Shi – I’m so glad that you brought up that global scale, because, chances are, if you’re listening to this podcast, it means that you’re in what is considered today as a developed country. And, a developed country has the internet, and it’s got resources, and you probably have running water, streets, institutions and a police force of some kind. And, while the efficacy of that police force may be up for review, *(laughter)* all of those services are provided in these developed countries. But, there are also people who DO NOT have running water, who are still starving, who don’t have access to medicine, and aren’t even allowed access to the internet due to government oppression. And so, we really are so abundant in so many ways. And yet, so many of us tend to look at our bank accounts and go, “But look at all that debt.“
Shi:
Right? That’s such a one dimensional definition of wealth and abundance – to just measure it by that number in the bank account. And, it can really discount all the rest of the abundance that’s around you. We often laugh about how God must feel…And, we imagine this sort of like a parent with a petulant child. And, as parents know, you give everything to that child (you take them out to lunch, watch a movie, go to the park) and then, when you come home and ask them to pick up their room or make their bed, they’re immediately complaining! And, they get all of a sudden impetulant, annoyed, and frustrated. And it’s like, “Do you not see all of the abundance that I gave you?…Can’t you do that one thing?” And so, we wonder if there’s that same kind of energetic signature from the universe when we do the same thing. And, I’ll tell you something about raising kids, they certainly show you that our egos are bottomless pits!
Kay & Shi:
*(Laughter)*
Kay:
Well, I love that in the Morris household, you guys say there’s always more to want, and that is so true. So, today’s quote says that, “To attract money, you must focus on wealth. It is impossible to bring more money into your life when you are noticing that you do not have enough, because that means that you’re thinking thoughts that you do not have enough.”
Shi:
And, that brings us to today’s quest! Ask yourself: Where are you receiving abundance that you have not been aware of up until now? And then, give gratitude for that abundance! So – does someone often share their lunch with you? Did your dad fill your gas tank recently? Did someone drop off a nice, unexpected gift? Where are you receiving abundance, that’s not necessarily money? Now, give gratitude for that abundance! Are you ready?
Kay & Shi:
Let’s quest!
