The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – June 2nd, 2021 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey-yo, Questers welcome back. We hope you’re having a wonderful Wednesday. It is the second day of the fabulous month of June, and this is episode 368. We have a Jack Kerouac quote for you today. He is a famous author and American novelist of French-Canadian ancestry. So, we just looked up a bunch about him. We still kind of don’t get this guy, but you know what, we’re rolling into it.

Shi:

He’s one of the pioneers of the beat generation, very famous for a book he wrote called “On the Road.” Just an interesting fellow. So, if you are looking for an interesting Wikipedia read, go down that rabbit hole. Otherwise just listen to this quote because it is a great quote, and it is also one of our dear team members Kendra Richardson’s senior quote. So, submitted by Kendra as we like to call her Kenny and her quote is, “There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars.”

Kay:

Oh, what a great quote for that sense of wanderlust. And if you’re anything like me, then you used to imagine when you were a kid before you had the power of driving in a car and the understanding of how expensive gas was. You had the dream of getting in the car and just going until it stopped. I used to think about that all the time. I just wanted to get in the car and just go.

Shi:

Just go. Sometimes you just wanted to pass your exit and keep on driving. That’s a great feeling that encapsulates that wanderlust desire that many of us get. I like to think about this quote, first of all, like it’s prosey and fun.

Kay:

Yup.

Shi:

It’s a good reminder of how tiny we are in the universe and how insignificant our lives are if we want to go dark with it. But if we want to look at it further, I like looking at this first part here. “There was nowhere to go but everywhere,” because in the sentence we really get the lesson of the futility of worrying, pushing, meeting, fretting, anxiously awaiting. There’s nowhere to go. So, calm down because everywhere is available to you and you live on this planet and it’s spinning around in the stars and you’re this tiny little speck on it. So, there’s nowhere to go but everywhere you can explore. You have so much to see, there’s so much to do and there’s nothing to worry about.

Kay:

On the flip side of that quote, kind of taking it from the wanderlust and the traveling ideal, let’s bring that onto the inside of things. There’s nowhere to go but everywhere. So, if everywhere is available to you why are you spending mental time inside anxiety? Why are you spending your mental life inside the emotion of worry or the emotion of pain or the emotion of anguish? There’s nowhere to go but everywhere, which means the entire spectrum is available to you at any given time. So, it just takes that spotlight of focus and then the second half of the quote, “so just keep on rolling under the stars,” because sometimes I think everywhere might feel overwhelming.

Shi:

It can. And remembering that at night those stars come out and in the day that sun rises and at night, those stars come out and there’s that natural rhythm of life that you get the exclusive joy to be part of for the time that you’re on this planet. When we have that choice, that choice to choose anywhere, that choice to keep rolling under the stars, it means that we are able to bring that awareness in those moments when we are feeling anxious or we’re feeling frustrated or having an internal experience that we’re not enjoying. It’s that opportunity to shift perspective and to remember that it really is a privilege to be here and that those stars are going to come up and the sun is going to come up and that stars are going to come up and they’re there to be part of your constant experience while you explore everywhere.

Kay:

Okay, I’m going to get a little heady…

Shi:

Alright, let’s do it.

Kay:

…just for a second. So, technically aren’t we always rolling under the stars because our planet is literally rolling through space? So, we don’t feel it because we’re gravitized onto the planet, but our planet is rotating. So, whether you like it or not, you’re rolling under the stars anyway. So, there’s nowhere to go, but I argue with it, or you can just be…

Shi:

And you’re rolling under the big star, the sun. When the sun is so bright you can’t see the other stars, but they are still there.

Kay:

Exactly. So as Jack Kerouac tells us. “There was nowhere to go but everywhere so just keep on rolling under the stars.”

Shi:

Speaking of those stars, you’ve got a Stargazer Quest today. Tonight, we want you to go out and peep some stars and feel the expansiveness of the universe above. If it’s still early in the morning and you’re listening, you can go outside right now. Otherwise, tonight, make a point before you go to bed to get outside and look at those stars. Now, listen, if there are clouds in the sky, look up at those anyways and remember, even though there are clouds in the way, those stars are still there and you’re still rolling under them. Are you ready? You can say it along with us now.

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
