The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – March 11th, 2021 Show Notes

Kay:

Hello, Queens and Kings. Welcome to the Mentorship Quest. Today is Thursday, March 11th. This is episode 309 and today we have a quote from the queen herself, Miss Oprah Winfrey and she says, “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping-stone to greatness.”

Shi:

Well, Oprah needs no introduction-so, we won’t give her one.

Kay:

O, O, Oprah!

Shi:

You guys know our wonderful, amazing Oprah and how much we admire and respect this thought leader and this woman. We just adore this quote because what little girl doesn’t want to be a princess. Most of us as little girls at some point in our lives when we were phasing in and out of our tomboy phases, loved princesses and loved playing in this way. What does a princess grow into? A real princess grows into a queen and so bringing this fantasy reality into our adult lives and into a way that is empowering is just, mmm, it’s juicy.

Kay:

Well, I think if we think of a traditional queen. You think of someone who walks into the room…

Shi:

Stately and…

Kay:

…stately and everyone gasps and looks their way, or the queen is someone who can make a decision and have it be final. A queen is someone who carries themselves in a way that makes other people treat them differently because of that air that they give off and it’s not an air of arrogance. It’s an acclamation, a claiming of what it is that they are, and who they belong to, and what belongs to them.

Shi:

I’m on the last episode of Bridgerton. So, the queen in Bridgerton, really wants to find out who Ms. Whistledown is, and she is not afraid to fail at that. She’ll throw all of her resources at it. But Bridgerton references aside, there are lots of ways that this power can go to someone’s head or that we’ve seen what happens. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. We know that and when we think of royalty, we often think of those corruptions. Oprah is reminding us here is that part of that title of queen is that they can’t fail and what if we all brought that to our own mentality of, if I “fail” by some definition or another, that in reality, it’s just a stepping-stone to the greatness that we are given as a birthright.

Kay:

Let’s think about one of, I would say a very popular favorite historical queen, Queen Elizabeth, the virgin queen of England. The OG Queen Elizabeth, not the one we have now. The OG Queen went out there to fight a Spanish Armada and literally led her army. At this point, we’ve got Queens that are moving forward in history and saying, I’m not afraid to fail. I’m so not afraid to fail but I will Mount my horse, I will put on my armor and I will lead my army to fight a bigger army that is likely going to crush us or, and I will succeed, or I will die trying and go down in history as the queen who at least gave her all for her kingdom.

Shi:

That’s the queen mentality we are all about embracing this Thursday. One of our favorite inspirational internet graphics states, “Chin up darling, or the crown slips.” We love this kind of visual of that mentality of a queen or of royalty, of keeping that chin up, of keeping your posture, of maintaining composure and not forced composure, but composure from a place of confidence. That’s really what Oprah is getting to here is that confidence piece, that knowing, and that security in who I am and what I have to offer. If the action I take isn’t the “right action” then it’s okay because it’s leading me in the right direction, no matter what. That confidence comes through in that feeling of royalty. So, to remind you what Miss Oprah, the queen herself said, “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping-stone to greatness.”

Kay:

Alrighty, guys. So, today we’ve got a Queen Quest for you.

Shi:

Queen Quest!

Kay:

We want you to think like a queen today and carry yourself like royalty. So, do it with us now. We want you to draw your shoulders up, back, and down, “Chin up darling or that crown’s going to slip,” and carry yourself today like the royalty you are. Your posture has a major influence on your confidence. So, shoulders back, chin and eyes up. Are you ready?

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
