The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – March 25th, 2021 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey there Questers and welcome back! We have another special edition, second time ever, episode for you today with not just two voices, but three. It’s Thursday, March 25th and this is episode 319. We have Kendra with us today from The Breakthrough Balance and she selected a quote right from her blog. So, Kendra, take it away!

Kendra:

The quote is, “Realize that it won’t always be perfect and pretty which is all the more reason to fall in love with the journey.”

Shi:

Now we want to dissect this quote, but first, we have to talk about how much we’ve fallen in love with you, Miss Kendra Richardson. If you are not familiar with Kendra, she is part of our team. She’s been with us for about 15 months now, and she is extraordinarily talented, a wonderful human being, beautiful on the inside and out and has become integral to our entire operations. So, Kendra, we are honored to have you on the podcast today.

Kendra:

Thanks so much for having me! These guys have just made my entire world expand within these past 15 months. So it’s truly incredible to be here and I’m honored to hear those special words from you, Shi.

Kay:

Well, the Mentorship Quest doesn’t get far without Kendra. She definitely helps us in so many aspects and with many of the projects. But, Kendra, we want to hear a little bit from you today. This quote comes right out of your brand new blog, The Breakthrough Balance. We would definitely suggest anyone go find Kendra on Instagram, check out her blog, which you can find at…What’s the handle?

Kendra:

Breakthroughbalance.com.

Kay:

Yay! Okay. Head over to her website. So, Kendra, tell us a little bit about what this quote from your blog means to you.

Kendra:

Yeah! So, this quote actually means a lot to me just because it sort of came to me in a more difficult time in my life. It was the past job that I was working at. I was actually working at a law firm out in San Francisco, riding the bus to and from Marin County. That traffic-filled commute is not the most fun and I wasn’t really super loving my job, wasn’t feeling fulfilled, and basically saw a man sitting on the bus with me. He had a bracelet that said, “Fall in love with the journey.” I kind of realized that that was what was wrong in the moment, was that I wasn’t really able to appreciate my moments fully because I was living in this state of dissatisfaction and this state of feeling like I wasn’t accomplished, or I wasn’t where I should be. I think that sometimes that’s a difficult thing that we come across when we’re so focused on a specific destination or an accomplishment, we can kind of get tunnel vision to that and we can start falling back on being intentional with those regular moments that can bring really so much joy to us, if we really tune into them intentionally.

Shi:

Yeah. Outcome, outcome, outcome, achievement, achievement, achievement. But it turns out there’s 99% of your life and time that happens between the decision and the outcome and your achievement. If you’re not enjoying that, it’s not a very enjoyable life.

Kay:

The law firm in San Francisco is awfully pretty and probably looked really perfect on paper, but to not have that internal peace is really where that kind of thing comes into play and the choice that you had here. Alright, so, I mean, we know, but tell the audience what happens next. You see the man on the bus, you see the bracelet. A bracelet changes your life and then?

Kendra:

Yeah. So, basically, I realized that I needed to find a way to sort of fall in love with these moments in between. So in-between I think we all have this deep fear of maybe failure and then on the other side of that, the other extreme is the incredible accomplishments that we want to achieve. Within that, we have all of these maybe “basic moments” where we’re washing the dishes, walking to work, doing our things that we might normally do mindlessly, and sort of thinking about: how can I tune into these in a way where I can actually feel in flow within my own body? How I define flow is kind of that feeling where you feel at home wherever you are within your own spirit and you also feel on purpose which is something that I have been able to tap into through my wonderful experience, working with these two beautiful ladies that are speaking to you today.

Kay:

Well, I think that sense of home that you’re talking about really is one of the driving forces for the movement right now to not call homeless people “homeless,” because there is so much home that can be found right inside the people who are affected in this situation are now to be known as house-less persons, not homeless, because that home is such an interstate, and we should never deny that to anyone regardless of their physical circumstances. So, just a reminder, Shi, why don’t you read Kendra’s quote?

Shi:

I would love to read her quote and just have to say, really dig on that feeling of flow being the goal rather than the outcome. I think that’s a beautiful, beautiful take on it. So, Kendra’s quote from today was, “Realize that it won’t always be perfect and pretty, which is all the more reason to fall in love with the journey.” Kendra, why don’t you take us through today’s quest?

Kendra:

Your quest today is a #ThoughtfulThursday Quest! So, today we want you to fall in love with the journey through intentionally being aware of your mindfulness and at least three activities you normally do “mindlessly.” Where can you find beauty, gratitude or feeling of flow within these in-between moments? So, we really want to challenge you to find that beauty, find that feeling of flow, whether you’re washing the dishes, walking to run an errand, or watching your family shenanigans.

Shi:

Are you ready?

Kay, Shi & Kendra:

Let’s quest!
