The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – November 13th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey Questers, welcome back, and happy #FriYAY! It’s World’s Kindness day, it is November 13th, and (you guessed it!) Episode 225. We have such a beautiful quote for you today from World Kindness Day – you’re going to love it.

Shi:

“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.”

Kay:

Now this was said by Barbara De Angelis. She’s an American relationship consultant, a lecturer and author, TV personality, relationship lady, personal growth advisor and spiritual teacher. So all around, she’s a woman who’s out there to help people have better connections.

Shi:

Well accomplished and done a lot in her life which means that we can take heed to what she says here and luckily this isn’t like about business mechanics or negotiations. This is about love and kindness, and one of the things that I love that pops up for us so often is that those who are so well accomplished (who are probably the epitome of success and fulfillment), so many times come back to this be loving, be patient, and be kind – and these messages really about that inner being of compassion rather than the mechanics of success. And so she’s got a couple sentences in here. Starting off with “Love and kindness are never wasted”. Now typically Kay and I are against words in absolutes like never. But I think in this instance we’ll allow it.

Kay:

Definitely will allow and maybe even..

Shi:

Agree.

Kay:

We would agree with this that love and kindness are never wasted even if the love and kindness are not reciprocated it does not mean that they are wasted. She goes on to say that they always make a difference and they bless the one who receives them and they bless you as the giver. Now the reason that it’s never wasted is because even if the person that you were showering that love and kindness on doesn’t not receive or isn’t receptive to it, it gives both parties the same love – and so you literally can’t waste it. Because if you’re giving it to another you’re receiving it for yourself.

Shi:

You know, I think there’s a 3rd party at play here and that’s the people who can observe acts of kindness and love. I think there’s many times in my life where I’ve seen someone be kind or loving in an interaction, in a car across the way, or in the restaurant and it gives your heart that little glow. You know, you start to feel that #faithrestoredinhumanity feeling rising up. Because it’s just heartwarming to see and I think it helps us see that that’s normal and that’s what today’s all about – really World Kindness day promoting kindness as a way of life. Because this is a good thing to be. And it’s not only a good thing, it’s never wasted and always makes a difference like Barbara tells us here in this quote.

Kay:

Earlier today I shared a story that I heard recently with Shi, of an ancient tale of a princess who is in an Eastern country and she is so kind and so loving and they just can’t figure out why she’s like this and she refuses to marry this man. So her dad sends her off to this island with these horrible cannibals or something and she ends up like turning the cannibals into compassionate people.

Shi:

Totally reminds me of the scene in Tangled where Rapunzel goes to the ugly snuggly duckling.

Kay:

The snuggly duckling.

Shi:

Yup, and turns all the brutes into her fans but goes on.

Kay:

So the princess changes the marauders into these loving people – they’re a farming community now. So the king goes and he burns down the island because he’s like they can’t do that. So, she leaves and does something else. And he attempts to kill her and he goes to behead her and he literally can’t, like the ax won’t cut off her head. Then he banishes her away and tells her to get out. So, she goes and ‘hermits up’ for like 2 decades and the king gets really sick, and turns out that the only diagnosis is if he gets an arm transplant from a person of loving heart. And so the hermit up at the mountain offers her arms for the king and the king comes to visit her after the successful surgery to see and look upon the person who was so kind and when he sees that it is the daughter of whom he has done so much bad in his life, he weeps and weeps and can’t even believe her endless kindness even though he has done bad. And there is the princess with no arms and thus at that moment she sprouts the 1000 arms of the goddess Guan Yin and is able to stand there with the 1000 arms embodying a full-on spirit in front of the king because she was blessed so abundantly by her spirit of endless giving.

Shi:

If you are a human-like me- you struggle to find the place of relation in your heart that says, “I will cut off my arms to give to an ailing father who tried to have me killed.” So I know I got some kindness work to do, I don’t know about you guys 😉 I don’t think I’m going to be sprouting a thousand arms any time soon, but I do know that I can be better about giving love and kindness. And Kay, you were talking before we started this podcast about the gifts you’ve received and thinking about the gifts you’ve given over the last year and it’s so interesting how much more memorable the gifts that you’ve given are than the ones that you’ve received. Because it feels so much better to see that look on your loved ones faces, and as Barbara De Angelis says, “Love and kindness are never wasted. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.”

Kay:

Alright time for your #FriYAY quest and it’s a World Kindness Day Quest – so a random act of kindness quest coming at you for the weekend! Bless yourself and at least one other person by performing a random act of kindness sometime over the next 3 days…Are you ready?

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
