The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – October 1st, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey there, Questers, welcome back! It’s Thursday, October 1st – first day of the month! This is Episode 194 and it’s also World Vegetarian Day. We have such a cool quote for you today from Albert Einstein. And, he says, “It is my view that the vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind.”

Shi:

Ah, what an old timey way to say vegetarianism is cool.

Kay:

It is cool! From a couple of girls who’ve been vegetarian for almost a year, it’s pretty cool!

Shi:

I know, I was thinking about that. It’s been almost a year, which is neat. And it started around November last year, that we really started to get that inkling of, “You know what? I think I’m kind of done with meat. And then, really made the decision full-time January 1st. But Kay, I think you went the entire month of December and I only had one piece of chicken in December as well. We’re definitely pro vegetarian. And actually – (Shila here!) – I’ve been pro vegetarian for quite some time. In fact, I was inspired first by Lisa Simpson in The Simpsons who is a vegetarian too.

Kay:

From the lamb chop, please God.

Kay & Shi:

Don’t eat me!

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Shi:

Classic Simpson’s line there. But, as a kid, I then started kind of exploring what happens to animals and it really hurt my feelings and resonated with me so I gave up red meat at the age of 10 and did not eat it again until I was 20. Full decade without red meat. And, the last three years, I also gave up white meat and chicken so I was full vegetarian there through some of my later teen years. And so, I came back to it. And, we all have those journeys…You meet somebody, you have young kids, you own a breakfast restaurant that serves amazing bacon…

Kay:

Oh my God, the bacon is so good.

Shi:

The bacon is so, so good. But ultimately it feels good to have landed back here where our roots started.

Kay:

In fact, just today I was walking into said breakfast restaurant this morning and they were doing bacon prep day.

Shi:

Smells so good.

Kay:

And I said to one of our fellow associates, “It’s only difficult to be a vegetarian on bacon prep day.”

Shi:

Good ol’ bacon prep day – the whole neighborhood smells like bacon that day.

Kay:

I kind of say, the houses that live behind us on those restaurant streets must be smelling the bacon on the daily. It is so delicious. But Albert Einstein has a real point here. And, as you know, Albert is one of the most world famous scientists out there. He’s German born, a theoretical physicist, and Nobel Prize winner known for the theory of relativity and mass energy equivalence formula dubbed the world’s most famous equation!

Shi:

E=mc squared.

Kay:

You KNOW it! He laid the ground for what is now quantum physics and has changed our understanding of both our physical reality and our energetic and spiritual reality in big ways. So really, Albert Einstein was more than a scientist. And this is just such great advice from such a smart man.

Shi:

He’s a fun Quest guide to feature and fun fact – my son Wesley did an Albert Einstein Chautauqua in his fourth grade class. He got to pretend to be Albert Einstein. He’s absolutely fascinated by E = mc2. And he’s got his like fourth grade book that he reads about Albert Einstein. But, what’s also funny is that my 10 year old Wesley is probably the most pro vegetarian out of everyone in the family. Well, I think he was born vegan. He must be Gaga’s spirit grandson. Our mom has come full vegan and actually helps lead a program called My Nutrition Nurse to teach others how to be whole food and plant based, and that’s a really cool program there. But Wesley is definitely committed to being vegetarian. Ever since he was little, he just did not like cheese, was not into milk, and didn’t really like meat. Always asked for the tofu! And so, he had made the commitment as well. In fact, in the Morris household, four out of the five of us are vegetarian, which is really cool.

Kay:

It’s so cool. You guys are going to get to the end of 2020 and what a neat accomplishment to come to as a family! And Albert says here that this is a purely physical effect on human temperament. So, the vegetarian manner of living, and giving up meat, has a physical effect on your human temperament. Meaning that the chemistry inside your body (affecting your attitude) changes and helps you to live a happier, more dopamine rich life – which if you know anything about human physiology – you know that dopamine is the happy maker…That’s what we want to be receiving when we’re being affirmed for our decisions! And so, he’s talking about this transformation on a physical level, which actually even impacts your attitude.

Shi:

To remind you of this mouthful of a quote that basically just says, “Yay, vegetarianism!” – Albert tells us, “It is my view that the vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind.”

Kay:

You might’ve guessed it – today’s quest is a vegetarian quest! Your quest today is to eat at least one meat free meal. Just give it a try! It’s not that tough. Just go one meal, meat free. Are you ready?

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
