In honor of President’s Day today – a quote from one of our dear favorites – Mr. Barack Obama. What we love about this quote is that we can often get frustrated into feeling like we don’t matter, but Barack serves as a reminder that each and every one of us DO matter, and real change happens one person at a time!
It’s true that there are opportunities for improvement everywhere in the world, and sometimes the BIG negatives, can make our hands seem too small to carry the weight. Because of this, we often resort to relying on others to make the change…
Quick reality check: There is no superman, and there is no prince charming….BUT – wanna know what’s even more true? YOU are just as capable of being a hero.
So – let’s rewind a bit. If we are the change that we seek, what does our current “change list” look like? And – most importantly – what things do we have on our list that are completely outside of ourselves and means of control? How about any “I need the economy to change”, or “I want my spouse to stop doing that”…have any of those on your list? There’s a whole lot of looking OUTSIDE when your list looks like that, when – in reality – we have the most influence over what’s INSIDE of ourselves.
Know what that means? We better start rewriting our lists with actionable items that we can do ourselves!
Oh – and one more thing – write this at the top of your list:
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”
THAT is a piece of gold from the Dalai Lama himself – so you best believe it!
